The story of E-engineering
E-Engineering – Peter & Lex
A System Only Works When Everything Works Together
An electric motor can perform perfectly. A control system can perform perfectly. An energy system can perform perfectly.
But ultimately, only one thing matters:
Do they all work together as one integrated system on board?
Meet our E-Engineering Team
Peter and Lex form the E-Engineering Team at AAApropulsion, combining specialist knowledge and years of experience with the day-to-day engineering of new projects.
Their focus goes far beyond the individual electrical components of a Pod or Thruster.
They engineer the interfaces that make the complete system work together.

Engineering the Complete System
Modern vessels bring together an increasing number of electrical systems.
Each system has its own function, its own controls and, in many cases, its own supplier.
Our E-Engineering Team therefore looks beyond the individual electrical components of a Pod or Thruster.
We look at the complete system:
- Power supply
- Controls
- Cabling
- Communication
- Software
And, perhaps most importantly, the interfaces between all those systems.
Because it is precisely at those interfaces that it is determined whether an installation will operate seamlessly as one integrated system.
On paper, every individual component may be perfectly engineered.
But a vessel does not operate on individual components. It operates on a system that has to perform as a whole.
That is why successful system integration starts with us during engineering.
Together with the shipyard, Naval Architect, System Integrator and our own Mechanical Engineers, we look closely at every technical interface.
- What power is required?
- How do the systems communicate?
- Which signals need to be exchanged?
- How will the installation be controlled?
- What happens when one part of the system responds differently than expected?
By answering these questions early in the project, we create the foundation for reliable system integration.
From Engineering to Proven Integration
Good system integration is not only about making the right decisions during engineering.
It is about keeping those decisions under control throughout the entire project.
By answering critical interface questions early, we prevent problems from becoming visible only during installation or Commissioning.
Every change must remain under control.
Every decision must remain traceable.
And documentation and software versions must evolve together with the installation throughout the entire project.
During the FAT, we therefore do more than verify whether the individual components function correctly.
We focus on how the systems work together.
- Does the system respond as intended?
- Do the controls and safety functions operate correctly?
- Are the right signals being exchanged?
- Does the complete installation perform as agreed during engineering?
During HAT, SAT and Commissioning, that integration is then further validated on board.
This allows us to verify not only that the individual systems have been built and configured correctly, but also that they perform together as intended in real-world operation.
Because ultimately, it is not enough for the electrical diagram to be correct.
The complete system has to be right.
Certainty Throughout the Lifecycle
For our customers, good E-Engineering means one thing above all:
Certainty.
The certainty that systems have been aligned from the very beginning.
That interfaces are clearly defined.
That changes remain under control.
And that knowledge of the original installation remains available once the vessel enters operation.
Even years later.
- When software is updated
- When systems are expanded
- When a malfunction needs to be investigated
With Remote Diagnostics and Root Cause Analysis, we do not simply look at what went wrong.
We want to understand why it happened — and prevent the same problem from happening again.
That reduces uncertainty.
It helps prevent recurring failures.
And it keeps future modifications and extensions safer and more manageable.
For us, that is the difference between connecting components and truly integrating a system.
When Good Engineering Becomes Invisible
Good E-Engineering is hardly noticeable when everything works exactly as it should.
And perhaps that is the greatest compliment of all.
Because you notice good system integration most when you do not have to think about it.
The system simply does what it is supposed to do.
